Requiring proof of surgical procedures in order to change one's legal gender is gatekeeping based on an outdated understanding of transgender people. Not everyone needs surgery, not everyone wants surgery, but everyone should have the right to live their life in the way that fulfills them. End the requirement for proof of surgical procedures. End the gatekeeping that keeps people who do not want or need surgery from living their lives the way that is healthiest for them.
