All you need to do is look at Chicago IL.  It has the most gun laws in the country yet has one of the highest incidents of crimes using firearms in the country.  People who intend to break the law by committing a crime will not abide by a "gun free zone."  In fact it will encourage them to commit the crime where they know none of their intended victims will be able to defend themselves.
