The governer has no authority to impose a carry ban in state agency facilities. The will of the people was disregarded after a ban on such regulations was passed by both Houses. Vetoing a bill that the majority of citizens wanted amounts to failing to serve the citizens, and, by extension, makes the governor unfit to serve. Where is the "emergency" in passing such a ban? I cannot recall any previous shootings in a state agency. Further, this ban precludes only law-abiding citizens from carrying; those very citizens who might otherwise have the means to protect state employees should the need arise. If the governor thinks that criminals will heed such a ban, that is all the more reason to believe he is unfit to hold office. This usurpation of authority is unacceptable, and I would urge citizens of the Commonwealth, as well as their servants in the legislature, to condemn most strenuously this abuse of power. As a retired law enforcement professional, I can most assuredly state that the citizenry is made safer by the presence of firearms in the hands of the law-abiding.
