Dental assistants need to formal education to evaluated by a qualified third party.  The general public is putting our  trust in the Department of Health to safe guard our health.  These dental assistants don't have the education that Hygienist and Dentists.  I have experienced Dentists walk out of the room when a crown was being cemented .  That crown never fit well and fell out twice. The tooth below decayed! The Assistants should not be seen as an extension of the dentist unless it is spelled out that direct supervision means being there in the room the entire time. Having the assistant apply base and cavity liners is impacting the nerve which is below the tissue. They don't have the training for this. And absolutely no delegation of anesthesia or sedation.  The doctor needs to be there.  People have died from nitrous oxide issues. Doctor should not delegate the responsibility to monitor a patient under sedation! Patients are paying the doctor to be there in the room monitoring them.
