Absolute opposition to the current decision to allow for scaling assistants. This legislation will not add any additional access to therapeutic care, but it will contribute to an already existing issue with undiagnosed and untreated periodontal disease. Currently we have dentists that consistently do NOT assessing periodontal disease and now the Integrty of providing comprehensive care will further decline, as patients will not be assessed as this will fall on the dentist instead of the registered dental hygienist, subsequently leading to misdiagnosis which will then means to the patient receiving sub standard care of “Supra gingival scaling” which is inadequate for all patients, even children. ALL patients require biofilm disruption subgingivally and this legislation will only further increase the issues we have with untreated disease that is historically not being treated under the current umbrella of dentist. Allowing an inadequately trained auxiliary to “treat” patients is unethical and not solving our current problems.
