It is unethical to have dental assistants without a dental hygiene license and passing multiple board exams to provide services to patients that they are inadequately trained to do. It is inviting subpar care and lower standards for patient care. It is truly only half of a cleaning to scale above the gumline and dental assistants have enough responsibilities while also being underpaid for what they already do.
