I am opposed to dental assistants scaling. They do not have the proper training and skills to do that. It is not something you can learn on the job. Dental hygienists have 2 years of intense classes and clinic time to learn how to properly hold scalers, learn which scalers to use in which areas, the fundamentals of periodontal disease, prevention, decay recognition, oral cancer screenings…so much!!
