I’ve been a professional in this field for 20 years and I think this set up is dangerous. Having that many individuals in one setting with limited community involvement is a set up for abuse, neglect and exploitation. When all of the staff are getting paid by a provider they are less likely to report concerns because they need a paycheck to live. I would ask the state to not fund this project and IF it has to be funded- the state should be there all the time. They should pop in do weekends and overnights because someone is going to get hurt. I think this is a 20 year setback for the state. I don’t think this meets HCBS regulations either because it’s a disability compound and other providers had less bad set up’s and had to close. I really hope the individuals there are safe, but this is scary and my professional experience tells me that this will end in disaster.
