If an industry that exploits a natural resource is opposed to stock assessments,  research and monitoring around the ecological impacts of that industry, then I suspect they know something they’d rather not have the public find out. Ditto for the opposition by VMRC. This is how poor resource management enables resource depletion, and runs contrary to its mission.
