I think it's great that Virginia is trying to make pregnancy and childbirth safer and more comfortable for inmates. It's not the baby's fault that Mom is in jail. No, pregnant women shouldn't be exonerated so they can give birth at home or in their home hospital, but while incarcerated they shouldn't be treated in such a way that could harm them or the baby or make it more difficult for them to give birth. Hopefully this legislation will pass with flying colors.
While Virginia is feeling charitable toward those locked up, I hope Virginia will make it illegal to leave your pet chained in the yard for long periods of time (no, I'm not talking about while you're sitting there barbecuing near it) or to make your suburban house pet live outdoors in all weather.
