is the need really that great?

I'm wondering if there really is as great a shortage as advertized as I have been registered with social services for 3 years and have only had 2 very short placements.  I suspect that my being single has a lot to do with this.  There may indeed be a shortage of married couples wanting to do this.

My concern with homosexuals having being allowed to have these children is that their lives have already been very difficult, and they desperately need their lives to become normal.  Being in a non-traditional family is the last thing they need.  I am also wondering about the legality of this as I have heard that co-habiting heterosexuals are not allowed to apply either.  It seems to me that that rule ought to be changed first.  Although, I am not in favor of changing that rule either as those relationships tend to be less permanant, and these children really need permanancy.
