Bank street is critical infrastructure for Richmond residents

It is imperative that Bank Street remain open to pedestrians, cyclists and wheelchair users on a 24/7 basis.  Richmond's current configuration of streets does not provide an alternative route for East/West bike access without dumping riders on our most dangerous corridors of Broad and Cary.  The city's bike master plan recognizes this need and funnels bike traffic down Franklin, on both sides of the State Capitol.  The existing security infrastructure, designed to stop car and truck traffic, is already unnecessarily restrictive of through use by these groups of nonmotorized users.  Further restricting access from 9-6 effectively cuts off morning commuters, after hours trips, and late evening service works.  Please work with the city's bike ped resources and non profits to identify alternative security solutions that eliminate the need for a time restriction and improve passage for residents.
