Teachers are professionals. Yes, there are some awful ones, just like there are terrible lawyers, doctors, judges, police officers, etc... Let the professionals perform their profession in the best manner possible. Especially in an AP class where the majority of students are 17 or 18 and can walk into an R-rated movie or move out of their house if they truly desired. Why shouldn't we teach kids safe sexual choices and do so in a learning environment? Literature is a great method to break the nerves and start a discussion. Trust the teacher to do their job. Ask them their reasoning. If they don't, report it to the principal, the higher authority, just like you would any other professional with which you're disappointed. Too bad decent teachers can't file or propose legislature against some parents.
