I belive that when a touchy subject does come up in what is being taught in schools, no matter what grade the student is in, that student's parent(s) should be notified. However, I do not believe that the parent(s) should have complete control over whether the student learns that subject/topic once the student has reached a certain grade level and/or age. For younger students, it is understandable that most parents would have to make the decision because the student would most likely not have the level of maturity or understanding to know whether this is something that they would need to learn at the time. However, once the student has reached that age or maturity level, it should be the student's overall decision.
