What is controversial or sensitive to one person may not be to many others. I have been hired to use my professional and ethical judgment to use a wide variety of appropriate materials to instruct my students with. In the twelve years I have been in Loudoun, I have never had a parent refuse to allow their child to read one of our classroom novels or a text being used in class. I have had a few parents for various reasons discuss with me a book/text and some unique situations pertaining to their child, and we have found a way to work together.
I vote against the proposed amendment to the Regulations Governing Local School Boards and School Divisions [8 VAC 20 - 720] on Use of Controversial or Sensitive Instructional Materials
