Dear DEQ—
I oppose the proposal to allow data centers in VA to utilize diesel generators for anything other than actual emergency use. Data centers should not be permitted any reasons for increasing their utilization of diesel generators other than for emergency.
Questions for DEQ concerning data centers and diesel generators:
Please uphold your mission and responsibility to protect Virginians, our wildlife, and our watersheds. Data centers utilization of diesel generators as a back-up energy source should only be for infrequent actual emergencies—not as a frequently used source. Diesell emissions contain known carcinogens via particulate matter measured in tons per year. The tsunami of data center development in the Commonwealth requires increased and vigilant standards and oversight by DEQ.
Thank you for the opportunity to provide public comments.
