There are many very experienced, competent veteran veterinary nurses working in the field. These are the members of staff we look to when a blood draw is difficult. These are the members of staff brand new LVTs look to for help when they are fresh out of school. These are the members of staff (along with experienced LVTs) that I want working on my pets. Not all LVTs are created equal. Every vet knows or has known a non-licensed veterinary nurse they trust more than a particular LVT. There is more than enough work to go around. Allowing properly trained non-licensed nurses to place catheters isn't going to be a detriment to anyone. And in reality non-licensed nurses are already placing catheters because there just aren't enough LVTs to place them all and still provide the highest quality of care to patients.
