There is a place for all energy sources in the Virginia Energy Plan and I would like to caution the Commonwealth from forming a misplaced affection with only electricity. The full-fuel-life-cycle carbon intensity score for electricity in Virgnia is 111. While this is better than the national average for electricity of 139, it remains unfavorable compared to the carbon intensity score of 80 for propane and natural gas.
Propane and natural gas accelerates the pathway to decarbonization. Propane and natural gas is abundant, affordable, and domestically produced. The inclusion of propane and natural gas in Virginia's Energy Plan ensures equity for all Virginians on our mutual journey to a cleaner climate.
