Guidance Document Change: The 2020 Virginia General Assembly passed House Bill 753 directing the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) to develop guidance standards for social emotional learning (SEL) for all public students in grades Kindergarten through 12 in the Commonwealth. The Virginia Social Emotional Learning Standards were developed in collaboration with an SEL Advisory Committee, composed of educators, community leaders, agency personnel, and parents. The Virginia SEL Standards are aligned with the Profile of a Virginia Graduate and centered in equity. This intentional focus allows the Standards to explicitly teach the skills needed to be “life ready” and to create more equitable learning environments.

Commenter: SEL is not good for the public schools or our children

No to SEL.

It has been said many different ways on these posts.  SEL is imposing a moral ideology on our kids.  SEL is dividing groups and pointing out differences.  SEL is dictating how they should feel.  Our schools should not do this.  How will they hold children accountable for this.  When religion, which looks different for different groups, and carries with it moral rights and wrongs, is not allowed as guidance for our children; this indoctrination surely must not be allowed either.  SEL is not moving us forward.  The definition sure looks great.  This standard does not stick to the definition and also works to promote division and hate.  The majority of thinking people do not want this.  Unfortunately as these things are promoted by covert activists pushing CRT and moonlighting as the champions of "Social Justice" (which is also mainstream CRT), no one is allowed to speak against it due to being "cancelled".
