Mandating a mask requirement is outside the realm of reasonableness in VA. I suggest this be considered optional. There are many situations where communications are inhibited by these masks. Constantly wearing and removing a mask to accommodate interactions outside the home or car is troublesome just as you have demonstrated in your own interactions with the press. However, I do encourage continual recommendation to maintain social distance recommendations.
