It is very disheartening to learn that so many of our underinsured patients have been deemed unimportant to qualify for appropriate reimbursement to ED physicians.  I’m at of these patients lack access to primary care. To say that DKA is preventable is correct, IF you have access to a medical provider. You must reconsider the plan to limit reimbursement for potentially very sick patients.
