Commenter: EIR & Parent of a child with multiple disabilities

EVV adding burdensome and anxiety inducing hoops to jump through

EOR's are free help.  There is already cost savings due to this fact. What is detrimental to state budgets & the economy; some studies cite upwards of 60% of married female caregivers (mothers) are UNEMPLOYED due to all the demands associated with caring for a disabled child. We deal with so much.  There is always some complication with EVV making things worse for EOR's.  It was difficult enough for EOR's to deal with the fiscal agent, state, service facilitator, and the portal, but now, it is a part time job for EOR's to deal with EVV and everything else.  I also have to manage educational supports and services for both of my children, meaning I have to monitor an IEP and a504 Plan. I also have to manage my household. On top of all this, I share caregiving sites with one local sibling to care for our parents aged 79 & 80. My father was diagnosed with bladder cancer 7 months ago and has been through several months of chemo & is currently in the hospital recovering from bladder removal surgery. He will require intensive assistance for the next 6 months according to the urological oncologist. He will need lifelong assistance with caring for his stoma and other Ostomy related needs. My mother is being treated by a neurologist for cognitive decline; she requires extensive support to help take care of my father. Being overwhelmed with a disability is bad enough, but add to that caring for aging & I’ll parents, difficulty finding attendants willing to work for the Medicaid rate (teens under 18 in my area charge $12+ for babysitting “typically developing” children), volunteering time as EOR, and EVV and you have the perfect storm for EOR's.
