Activities Director Certification

The National Certification Council for Activity Professionals (NCCAP) was established in 1986 to meet FTag 680 of CMS which requires that an Activities Director in a skilled nursing facility be “qualified”. Accordingly, NCCAP established the 180-hour plus practicum “Activity Director Certification” (ADC) to meet the highest level of CMS requirements.

Accepting the operational, functional and regulatory differences that currently exist between Skilled Nursing and Adult Day, NCCAP nevertheless maintains that ADC for Adult Day ensures the highest quality of care and compliance. This is particularly relevant given the increase in both regulatory oversight and Federal funding for the Adult Day sector.

Related, and which may address concerns expressed by others, NCCAP offers a 90-hour plus practicum “Activities Professional Certification” which addresses the activities requirements of the proposed regulation.

Further, NCCAP recommends that all staff interacting with clients obtain training and certification in person-centered care and dementia care, such as NCCAP’s 10-hour “Person-Centered Engagement Certification.”
