Respect for property

It is a downright shame the lack of respect and common sense in the City of Richmond has diminished to the point that these restrictions are being considered.  The city has many beautiful attributes which attract many visitors to the city each year, thus generating revenue.  Of course, one of these attributes is the Lee Monument on Monument Avenue, a National Historical District.  I am 100% in favor of protecting the Lee Monument but some of the restrictions are just too extreme.  People who live in the historic neighborhood should be allowed to enjoy the area around the monument without having to worry about being non-compliant.  Most people in the neighborhood, and most people who come here to see the monuments, are respectful, and these regulations  are unfair to them.  It only applies to vandals, who should be apprehended and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, which would be a deterrent to future vandals.  As for the future of the monuments, there are many streets in Richmond.  Someone who doesn't want to see the monuments, can use another route.  There are thousands of us who love the monuments, and we have the right to appreciate and enjoy them.  We spend money in the city, too.
