Preserve and Expand Net Metering

I have worked in the Virginia solar industry for four years now.  This has afforded me the opportunity to work in a field for which I have enthusiasm and passion.  Additionally, working in the Virginia solar industry has provided me with a well-paying job to support my family in a state that lacks career opportunities outside government and military jobs.  My companies’ business model is centered around distributed rooftop solar and policies like net metering help make this possible.  Currently, net metering policies are capped at 1% of peak demand.  I am writing to encourage policy decision makers to increase the cap on net metering to ensure solar companies who provide meaningful and well-paying jobs can continue to operate and thrive.  Expanding the current cap on net metering also allows solar companies to continue providing clean, local energy for their communities and helps their customers save on energy bills.  My job and the growth of our industry depend on fair market access and a level-playing field for customer-owned rooftop solar.  Virginia's energy plan should expand job-creating incentives like net metering while eliminating arbitrary barriers that stifle job creation and hurt Virginia solar companies.  I respectfully urge you to expand the current cap on net metering to ensure Virginia solar companies can continue to create well-paying jobs, build clean, local energy into our communities and give consumers energy choice and freedom.
