Strongly oppose CACREP only legislation

I opposse the upcoming legislation for CACREP only LPC's to be able to practice in Virginia and this is coming from one who graduated from a CACREP graduate program.By limiting the ability to practice to only CACREP LPC's we are leaving out a huge portion of the population who are more than qualified educational and experientially to be able to work with clients.

I currently work with the military and see firsthand how long the weight is for servicemembers to be able to get an appointment not only in the VA but also out in town. To find the courage to go in and ask for help only to be told that you have to wait a minimum of 45 days or more puts most people off of continuing to seek help. I agree that Master's level programs need to ensure that they are turning out the best trained counselors but why does CACREP have to be the only body that is the standard, can not other programs be looked at for what they provide individually instead of making a blanket assumption that if it isn't CACREP then it is not up to par?

While we are busy doing all this fighting amongst ourselves we are not focusing on who is losing out and that is the clients we are supposed to serve.
