Women's Health is Important

Reproductive health care is not a privelage, it is a right. All women should have access to safe health care, to make decisions about their bodies. Restricting access to safe, quality health care decreases options for ALL women. What about ectopic pregnancy or other health risks that may cause a woman to terminate the pregnancy because her life is in danger? If these laws are put in to place, we will be putting the lives of fetuses ahead of those of the women carrying them. Health care has advanced so much, pregnancy and child birth is so much safer than it has been in the past. Passing these regulations will set us back.

This bill is said to define "personhood." Do we not also define personhood as a being who is capable of making their own decisions about their own bodies? Women are people, too, and our lives and our livelihoods are threatened by these regulations. Unexpected pregnancy due to rape, incest, or protection that just doesn't work the way it is supposed to is terrifying, but it happens. It happens every day. Are we to deny the women who experience these things the right to decide they don't want to carry their abuser's child? Are we going to tell the college student who's condom broke that they just have to deal with it and make the best of their situation? That's archaic, and unnecessary. Choice is a right every human should have. Access to safe and quality reproductive health care is necessary. Women deserve to have control over their own bodies, not to have them governed by laws, by other people deciding what is best for them.
