The wealthy will always have abortions for their women, the poor will suffer back alley abortions

I am an older woman who  lived through the 1960's when abortion was not legal.  I saw and knew of young women who had 'back alley' aborttions.  Several were college students and one a young married women who could not support another child.  One woman I knew lost her life, one could never have children after she was butchered.  But I do know that whenever a wealthier female became pregnant during those years, she would have the money to go out of the country to have an abortion.  The religious right will never stop abortions, the wealthy will always have them for their women.  The poor woman and families will be the ones who will suffer.  And if or when this happens their numbers will grow and grow and grow.  And who will take care of these babies when welfare is eliminated, when Medicaid  and other social programs are ended, as the GOP desires.  Abortion is a private decision between a woman, her doctor and God, and it is legal.  We've come such a long way, if the GOP forces American women to go back to that time it will haunt them for years.

  • The high standard of care provided by women's health centers is proven by their impressive safety record. Today abortion is one of the safest medical procedures. Over-regulation will limit access to a wide range of preventive reproductive health care services provided by women's health clinics, including life-saving cancer screenings, family planning, and sexually transmitted infection testing and treatment.
  • It is my hope that the regulations will be amended to be based purely on medicine and science and should not impede women's access to essential health care.  Respectfully submitted, Kathleen Franck
