Kratom is of benefit in an environment where those with chronic pain are frequently given no other recourse. It is also frequently used as a form of harm reduction for opiate addicts trying to reduce or cease taking them. It is frankly dangerous to consider a schedule 1 ban in this context, and would lead to far greater risks to public health
