This policy idea is short-sighted. It is a hasty decision that completely ignores the reality of greenhouse gas emissions and their contribution to climate change, which impacts and will continue to impact the lives of Virginians in concrete ways. Instead of reasoning through the decision whether to withdraw, the Youngkin administration has barreled ahead without actually thinking through this issue, in order to deliver a win for donors and partisans. The administration has entirely failed to adequately understand the issue and reason through alternate options for how to proceed. The decision to withdraw is illogical and poorly reasoned, and it has not been adequately explained. If this policy decision goes through, Virginians will suffer the consequences. The state will be less prosperous and less safe as Youngkin decides to accelerate climate change rather than deal with the crisis in a reasoned manner.
