The RGGI has a good track record of decreasing carbon emissions without hurting economic growth (50% decrease of emissions since it began and $4 billion raised for local communities). VA was decreasing emissions faster than most states in the nation. Drawing out of that agreement is very hypocritical for a political body that claims they care about the health and welfare of the next generation.
However, it's also true that the RGGI has issues and we need to go a little further. If Youngkin wants to withdraw from this agreement, state representatives should require a better, more effective plan to reduce carbon emissions and keep Virginia's natural resources growing. In the absence of such a plan, we should stick with the RGGI.
