Stay in the RGGI

I don’t think the proposed change to remove the Commonwealth from the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) is a good idea. The purported ‘win’ for Virginia’s electricity ratepayers is nowhere close to the losses that urban and rural areas spread across the Commonwealth experience regularly as a result of more dangerous and severe weather—Flooding in coastal areas has always been expected to some degree but Virginians well inland now routinely see flash flooding from ‘100 year storms’ that come much more frequently than they used to.  And, the funding for projects associated with Va.’s implementation of the policy has helped lessen the everyday impacts by helping improve drainage in cities, counties and towns across the Commonwealth—allowing streets to be clear for safe passage of vehicles and continued commerce—while other funding helps increase the energy efficiency of homes for Va.’s low income residents, which is actually a win for all including the electric company that routinely asks for Virginians to limit their use of electricity of hot summer days. I am strongly in favor of Va. remaining in the RGGI.
