Governor Youngkin's proposal to withdraw from the RGGI is shortsighted. Climate change is a serious issue that is already having a significant effect in the US - intense heat waves, droughts, wildfires and devastating floods that already carry a significant cost in terms of human health and lives, disruption of business, harm to agriculture, increased insurance costs. In addition to these costs, the cap and trade program has already produced significant revenue for the state - how will this be made up if the program is abandoned? The costs of the program to the electricity consumer are modest - about $3 of my last $118 electricity bill. We cannot afford to abandon this effort.
