Return to RGGI! Our communities can't take much more

The LAST thing Virginia needs to be doing is LESS. For not only our coastal regions, which have been getting decimated by increased flooding, but also for inland regions as well, as "regular" storms are dumping more and more water on communities with aging infrastructures.

According to the Virginia Mercury, "Over the past two years, Virginia has accumulated over $200 million for flood protection from the state’s participation in the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative."  It is a good program, helping those same communities rebuild and improve their infrastructure.

67% of Virginians support remaining in RGGI, according to a recent Wason Center survey.  The governor should listen to constituents, NOT energy companies. He has argued that the program drives up utility prices, despite the fact that Dominion Energy’s lobbyists have long been known for setting the utility’s rates.

Instead of flying all over the country stumping for extreme candidates for governor in other states, the governor should spend the weekend in Hampton Roads, as Ian comes to visit. Get a firsthand look at how real climate change is.
