opposition to 22 VAC 40-131

As life-long citizens of Virginia, we are writing to state our opposition to the proposed new regulations being forced upon private child-placing agencies. In this regulation, Virginia would indeed throw away freedom of choice: the freedom of choice for those administering or donating to these private agencies, as well as the mother (or family) that has chosen a particular agency that does not subscribe to these new “minimum standards.” Do we now no longer believe that a mother has a choice for her child? Should she not be allowed to choose what child-placing agency she would like to use, because many agencies have closed and those that are left are all operating under the same forced “standards”? If able, should she not help determine what type of family she would desire for her child?

These new regulations are not for the freedom of all Virginians or even most Virginians; they are for a select few adults who wish to impose upon all Virginians, particularly children, the lifestyle they chose. Parenthood is all about self-sacrifice for children, not about working out an agenda. It would be a sad day for Virginia when we decide to put the desire of a few adults ahead of the welfare of the children of Virginia.
