Stage:
On 4/15/2022 the board requested that this
emergency stage be extended until 1/3/2023.
Reason for Extension:
Chapter 943 of the 2020 Acts of Assembly required the Board to establish procedures and requirements to issue separate licenses for funeral directing and embalming. The legislation also required the Board to promulgate regulations to implement the provisions of the act within 280 days of its enactment. Emergency regulations were submitted on the Regulatory Town Hall on October 20, 2020, became effective on January 5, 2021, and expire on July 4, 2022. Proposed regulations to replace the emergency regulations were submitted on the Regulatory Town Hall on April 9, 2021. The comment period for those proposed regulations ended March 4, 2022. The Board last met on February 11, 2022, before the comment period on the proposed regulations had ended. The Board voted on final regulations at its April 15, 2022 meeting, and those regulations will be submitted for executive branch review within the next few business days. Therefore, the Board requests a six-month extension to the emergency regulations to ensure the regulatory requirements for issuing funeral director only and embalmer only licenses do not expire.
This emergency extension request was approved by the Governor's office on 6/30/2022.
