Support Regulatory Action

I support the proposed regulation as written but would advise the board to broaden its scope of acceptable souces for CU to include conferences and short courses that emphasize promoting intervention of literacy skills.

I am in favor of the proposed changes in regulations governing continuing education hours. The changes eliminate the confusion for many therapists between Type 1 and Type 2 hours.  Further, the ability to carry hours over from one year to the next creates some ease for obtaining the total amount of continuing education hours.

I support the proposed changes.  I am pleased to see consideration being given to the elimination of differentiating between Type 1 and Type 2 continuing education hours.  This will lessen confusion noted by SLPs on the difference between each type.  Additionally, being able to "carryover" units from one year to the next is a definite move in the right direction.  Many SLPs participate in numerous continuing education activities which go beyond BASLP requirements so it will be great to see these hours being applied toward fulfilling continuing education to the upcoming year.

I am very much in support of these changes. The proposed requirement of 10 hours every year coincides with ASHA's requirements.I also appreciate the ability to transfer/credit excess hours to the next renewal year and the elimination of type 1 and 2 designations. Thanks.

Approve proposed changes

I approve the changes that have been proposed.  To clarify, with the continuing education hours not being Type 1 and 2 any longer, do self-studies and inservices no longer count towards continuing education?

CEU changes

I am in support of the proposed changes for CE and appreciate the section about being able to carryover hours if needed.  It makes much  more sense to obtain and maintain CEU's this way.

The changes in CE requirements and the ability to carry over extra hours is a welcome change, This will make ASHA and the state CE requirements the same and much easier to ensure they are completed each year.

Opposed to Annual Renewal Fee Discrepancy

I am strongly opposed to the discrepancy in the Annual Renewal Fee for school SLPs and non-school SLPs and Audiologists.  Please reconsider this discrepancy and make both fees equal.

18VAC30-21-40. Fees required.

Annual renewal of audiology or speech-language pathology license: $75

Annual renewal of school speech-language pathology license: $40

Sincerely,

Ann Ferrell, M.Ed., CCC/ SLP

As a BASLP certified SLP in the school setting, I support the changes that are proposed for requirements for reactivation and reinstatement of licensure,  continuing education requirements, and the expanded grounds for unprofessional conduct.

Support changes

I support these changes for all of the reasons stated previously. In addition to ASHA and state requirements, school-based therapists also have to manage county school system professional development hours. This will help to ease that task.

In Agreement As Written

I am in agreement with the proposed action as written. This will make obtaining/documenting CEUs much more in line with that of our national accredditing body's requirements (ASHA) and eliminate the confusion over type I/type II hours. I also appreciate that extra hours earned in a year can be rolled over to the next year. Thank you.

I support the proposed changes.  Eliminating the determination  between Type 1 and Type 2 continuing education hours is very favorable due the uncertainty of which category to choose. Transferring of units from one year to the next is a definite positive change to assist the SLPs in meeting BASLP certification requirements.
