Guidance Document Change: The 2020 Virginia General Assembly passed House Bill 753 directing the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) to develop guidance standards for social emotional learning (SEL) for all public students in grades Kindergarten through 12 in the Commonwealth. The Virginia Social Emotional Learning Standards were developed in collaboration with an SEL Advisory Committee, composed of educators, community leaders, agency personnel, and parents. The Virginia SEL Standards are aligned with the Profile of a Virginia Graduate and centered in equity. This intentional focus allows the Standards to explicitly teach the skills needed to be “life ready” and to create more equitable learning environments.

Vehemently Opposed

At what point has the Virginia Department of Education decided it was their job to teach morality?  Why is it so hard for the VADoE to simply educate our children in the areas that make them think for themselves and to become successful adults?  When has the VADoE decided it was more important to indoctrinate our children into leftist views and think for them?

This is a disgrace and one of many examples that public education is becoming Marxist, Orwellian and Machiavellian all at the same time.  I’m grateful  that when I attended school I learned about these concepts so I can recognize them when they are taught. VADoE isn’t just teaching these concepts it’s brainwashing our children to know only this.

When did Virginia start to hate our children to the point of mentally incapacitating them to be independent thinkers.  This is nothing more than state sanctioned child abuse; producing children who will “group think” and “newspeech”, yes two Orwellian terms from the book 1984.
