Support to keep PWD certifications

I support the continued regulation of Certified Professional Wetland Delineators (PWD) by DPOR.  I am a PWD as well as a Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) through the Society of Wetland Scientists (SWS).  In my career delineating wetlands, I have found major mistakes on projects that were delineating incorrectly because the person delineating didn't have the knowledge or skill set to identify wetlands correctly.  These projects often were not confirmed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and ultimately had to be re-delineated by a PWD which was a major cost of both money and time.  I would encourage DPOR to discuss the PWD program with the Regulatory Section of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to discover how valuable and knowledgeable a PWD is when it comes to delineating wetlands and writing permits.  Being a PWS as well I can first hand say does not give someone the ability to delineate wetlands.  I know lot's of people with the PWS certification who have never hung a wetland flag.  If this certification were to be eliminated I'm certain there will be unregulated loss of wetlands which will affect Virginia's water quality. I urge DPOR to keep the PWD Certification.
