The practice of converstion therapy, also known as reparative therapy, has been considered unethical and considered harmful to clients by every major professional organization related to mental health care for some time now. It is time for Virginia to join the 16 other states across the nation and disallow this practice by licensed practitioners at the very least. An ongoing discussion is necessary about generally considering this practice as abusive, even when practiced by non-licensed practitioners.
