As I am a student who attends University speicialized in Acupuncture technique, including dry needling and Oriental Medicine for almost 4 years, it is not safe for other medical practitioners to treat patients with light knowledge of needling on any patient's body.
As many students who study for Master Science degree of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, it takes at least 3 years to complete all necessary education with practice as doing 960 hours of internship to learn throughly about how to keep needles clean, use needles clinically safe and understand how meridians work for diffrent symptoms and organs of body.
Allowing physicians/ chiropractors/ doctors to do dry needling without a proper, specialized education in Acupuncture or license and training provided by Acupuncture university/schools should be illegal medical practice as it can cause severe damage on human body, such as pneumothorax.
Physicians who wish to use dryneedling must either fully study Acupuncture education program in a university as they completed medical course in western medical school to practice any medical procedures, or they should not abuse oriental medicine practice with needling just because they know anatomy.
