I am a Licensed Acupuncturist and RN in practice in Roanoke, Virginia after living and practicing in New Jersey for many years--over 16 years of experience. Acupuncture training is quite comprehensive, including distal points, meridian theory, local points and trigger point release. Detailed anatomical curriculae as well as intensive needle technique is required in order to become a licrensed acupuncturist. Most effective treatment comes from this extensive knowledge and practice. I have treated many, many patients who received dry needling from PT's without any positive effect who obtained long lasting relief from acupuncture, which incorporates the full medical theory that created the system. I have great respect for PT's, but strongly believe that dry needling is outside the scope of their practice. Please do NOT allow this to become law in Virginia--patients will not benefit from this practice, and harm may ensue to patients treated by PT's that do not have correct training or needle technique.
