Board of Health,
As a Registered Nurse, board certified in medical and surgical nursing, I can attest to the complications that can occur in even the most routine procedure, especially when any type of sedation is used, including conscious sedation. Women who have an outpatient surgery in a free standing surgical center, including orthopedic surgery, are protected by reasonable standards set by the Board of Health. Women who choose to end their pregnancy deserve THE SAME PROTECTIONS.It is both ILLOGICAL and UNREASONABLE that a woman has greater protection with surgery on her knee than on an internal organ (her uterus) that has increased blood supply due to the pregnancy!PLEASE RETAIN the common sense regulations so that Virginias women are protected. The Board of Health would not consider degrading the health and safety regulations of free standing surgical clinics. Does the Board actually believe that abortionists are more trustworthy than board certified surgeons" It is an insult to Virginias physicians to regulate abortion facilities at a lesser degree!Would the Board even consider a petition by UVA Medical Center or MCV Medical Center to decrease its oversight due to the cost" If not, the cost argument should not be considered with abortion clinics either.Again, PLEASE RETAIN THE CURRENT ABORTION CLINIC REGULATIONS for the health and safety of Virginias women.Thank you for your time and consideration.
