Abortion is an intrusive procedure on a woman which, unless performed under safe clinical and sanitary conditions, may lead to infections with disastrous consequences for the patient. Therefore, it makes no sense to give abortion centers a pass from regulations on health, safety and cleanliness that are the norm for other medical facilities in Virginia. Abortion clinics are also medical facilities after all, and to exempt them from the standards that govern the operations of other such establishments i to display at least a bureaucratic insensisivity to the plighr of women who choose an abortion. At worst, it is a derogation of the right to choose and represents another victory in the war on women.
