Having students experience hands-on learning under the direct supervision of a veterinarian before our forth year is a great idea, and one I wish would be adopted in my home state. I would much rather perform procedures for the first time under the supervision of a doctor who has done them before and can guide and teach me while doing them, rather than for the first time after I graduate, entirely alone and un-aided. I agree that pet owners should be informed about who will performing the procedures, but should remember that human doctors often have residents performing procedures as well. This would be no different.
