This is not the issue of banning books but simply to notify ahead of time the sensitive, graphic material these children are told to read and to be able to act accordingly (opt-out) if there is an individual issue.  We are a military family with four boys who have lived all over the world and therefore have not been sheltered from reality by any means.  They don't need the literature chosen in school to expose them to any more of life's realities.  It should be a family's chose to read some the  material. A school has no idea what issues are going on in the family or with the individual.  Parents need the opportunity to be involved in our children's education and to opt out if needed.  Better yet - let's make better choices when choosing the literature in the first place!
