A moratorium is necessary to ensure the health of the bay. Several species are dependent upon the menhaden, and are failing to strive. Rockfish, cobia, and osprey to name just a few. Surely it is not too much to ask for a moratorium while a scientific study occurs to determine whether or not these fish are in trouble.
Remember, Virginia is the only state that allows a reduction fishery to the extent that Omega and Ocean harvesters have. A ban in state waters will not hurt the reduction fishery as they fish outside the state more times than not.
Please make this moratorium happen while a study is done.
Sincerely,
Capt. Craig Freeman
