Menhaden fishing in the Chesapeake Bay has been occurring for over 100years in the bay proving that it can be successful and sustainable just in the nature of operation longevity. Understand that fishing with go through periods of abundance and scarcity due to multiple factors such as weather, migration patterns, water temperatures, changes in salinity and sanitation, all factors that change year to year. Any study will be extremely hard if not impossible to accurately predict future trends due in large part to the migration uncertainty and reproduction capabilities of this forage fish. To shut down a certified sustainable fishery that has been in constant operation for over a hundred years supporting 3rd and 4th generation Virginia families is not good science.
