Consistency Across Language is Helpful to Providers
8VAC20-781-610 G. 1. The food and beverage container shall be sealed and labeled in a way that identifies the owner by first and last name.
We would like to see ‘first and last name’ changed to ‘child’s name’. Medication, topical ointments, human milk, and formula only say they need to be labeled with the child’s name but food says first and last name. As a program that provides food it is actually very common that siblings share lunch box containers or even food and extra snack so labeling something in a way that clearly identifies the owner would be sufficient.
There are many times where there is language that is unclear. Some places the term is ‘play equipment’ others where it says ‘slides and climbing equipment’.
It is unclear why there are different words used and different framing. I wonder if that provides any utility or if there is a way to simply language across the standards. It seems like much of the language is not clear and actionable. Spending some time trying figuring out how to put the standards in actionable standard and in present tense.
