I do support the petition to pause purse-seine fishing for Menhaden in the Chesapeake Hay until there has been a rebound in the population of rockfish. Rockfish support a broad base of the economy in the entire bay region not just one locality.
Additionally, it appears that populations of Osprey are falling due to a lack of Menhaden available for them to feed their young as food.
I can remember in my past seeing vast schools of Menhaden boiling on the surface and being chased by schools of striped bass. I spent a lot of time on the Bay this year and never saw this occur. It is a collapse of the food chain in the Chesapeake Bay due to the overfishing of menhaden by omega protein.
